Learning as we go
Special needs parents learn as we go. The little lessons and the big lessons are often learned on a personal level. Sometimes if you have a friend in a similar situation you can share what you've learned so they don't make the same mistakes. Then there are opportunities like this site and others where you can share the lessons you've learned to other families. My friend Breck is doing the same thing on her site about her son Bennett. I've written about Breck and her family before after she put together a beautiful video about Bennett's struggles with Cystic Fibrosis. Breck has learned so much since Bennett was born and she's documented some really incredibly helpful information on how to manage being the parent of a child with special needs. Her list and tips are thorough and fantastic.Breck and her family are about to spend the next four weeks in a Ronald McDonald House so Bennett can take part in a special feeding clinic that hopefully will help him eat 70% of his nourishment from solid foods. I'm sending them good luck on this "vacation." I know it will be an intense experience and the family deserves extra love from the web world.
