Wearing prosthetics for fun
It isn't every day when you ask your child to grab a sword and put on her hook arm... But this past weekend was that kind of opportunity.
Arg!! There was a pirate invasion on Saturday in Damariscotta, Maine - just 45 minutes away from where we are staying for our vacation. It was just too perfect to wear the cool monkey bar hook as a pirate hook. I had sort of considered bringing it, but Randy was determined to see if Jordan would be willing to wear it. Surprisingly, he brought it up to her and she was totally cool with the idea. Jordan didn't just fit in with the crowd, she was adorable.
Randy heard a number of times when people would walk by her and ooh and ahh about how cute the little girl with the purple hook looked. But since this was a pirate event, no one questioned the reason why Jordan would have such a realistic and cute hook. How fun is that? The only time we had to explain how it was really a real hook was when the two kids got to be a part of a swearing-in process to agree to the pirate code. And since we were talking to a pirate, Jordan was just given extra cool points.
The cute wouldn't stop there. Jordan decided she wanted to get her face painted... and since she wouldn't want scars or something gross, she picked a cat face.
All in all, it was a super fun day. Jordan got to dress the part more than most kids. She had a great time. We all did! She ended up taking her hook off near the end of our time at the pirate invasion since there was a bounce house. I told her I didn't think it would be nice to bounce into kids with a hook... It was a pirate danger that we could avoid.
