The magic of community
Community. We come together in so many ways. The first way I think about community is when I have a chance to meet in person with the wonderful people who are a part of the Born Just Right community. Our most recent meetings were in California. We meet up with families in San Jose, Santa Cruz and Monterey. Spending time with everyone was awesome. We all had a chance to ask questions and share knowledge. But there are other sides of community. I've had a few really wonderful conversations with Born Just Right readers recently online. One reader mentioned she wanted to find ways to share her son's outgrown, hemmed outfits so another limb different kid could use them. Another reader is looking for more materials to help her explain and educate limb differences when she speaks to groups. Two different needs, two ways our community can work together. When it came to sharing the hemmed clothing, I recommended to the mom that she should join a Facebook group called Wonderful Wears. It's a small but helpful group that looks to trade and share hemmed clothes for limb different kids. I shared a link to the group from the Born Just Right page and it's so cool to watch that page reignite with new spirit of sharing and support. It looks like about 70 more people have joined the group. It's super cool. And then there's the mom who wants to spend more time speaking about limb differences to raise awareness. Yes, the Lucky Fin Project has pamphlets she can hand out during talks. But she's looking for more materials. Why not something from Born Just Right. And she's right! Why not. I have years and years of knowledge I've gathered at this site.So let's work together. What kind of handouts would you like? I can create printable items you can print out at home or at a printing company. Here are some of my ideas:What are limb differences? How to talk to your kids about limb differences. How can you help support the limb difference community. Now, I'd love to hear from you. What kind of handouts would you like to see from Born Just Right? I'll try to figure out some easy ways to help you print them out and share!
