Softball Season Returns with Speed

After a few weeks of practice and a rain delay, Jordan finally had a chance to play her first softball game of the season. She's playing for the coach pitch Dragonflies team. If she sticks with this, next year is the start of kid pitch. (That's when things get serious.)Jordan loves this sport. She is constantly improving her catch and release skills and is building a solid instinct for when to use her glove and when to drop it and just grab the ball to throw. Also, with the coach pitching, Jordan is really confident hitting the ball using her backswing. It may not lead to homeruns, but she made a base hit with the first pitch all three times she was up to bat during her game.

Jordan was especially proud of her speed running past the first base. She's committed to the game once she gets there. But since she had such a busy week, getting her to the game was a bit whiny. And to make things more challenging, she left her glove out of her sports bag, so she had to miss playing in the field during the first inning while I drove back home to track down her glove. These are the tiny details that can get lost when I assume everything is in the right place. The biggest challenge is there is rarely a backup glove for someone who catches as a "leftie." There's always a left-hand glove available, but spare right-handed gloves are tough to just have laying around. Hopefully our little hiccups for the first game of the season won't continue for much longer!Even with the little glitches, Jordan had a ball and tells me she can't wait for her next game.
